Interest Groups

list of interest groups for 2017

Various Interest Groups run throughout the year and throughout Western Australia. A list of those Interest Groups who are affiliated with the WA Occupational Therapy Association with the current contact details of the convenor/s is below:

Thank you to all our Special Interest Group Convenors and Committee Members from 2016. Many of you are moving on in 2017 and WA OT Association would like to say that we appreciate all the work involved in coordinating these important groups. On behalf of all the members who attend and Committee of Management –  Thank You.

ASIG is open to all OTs and OT students. We provide a range of education topics relating to acute care. ASIG is usually held on a Tuesday evening 5.30pm – 7pm. If you would like more information or to become a member of the Acute Services Interest Group please contact: for more information.

The Aged Care Interest Group at this point of time is no more, as no one has stepped up to take on the role of convenor. The WA Occupational Therapy Association wishes to say thank you to Elizabeth Oliver for her efforts over a considerable length of time in convening this group.  It is not too late for someone to come forward and resurrect this important interest group.  With the growing ageing population, we as a profession need to keep abreast of the happenings in the health care sector but also be part of asking the hard questions about care for the older person.  The interest group has a role to play in this.  Please contact the WA Occupational Therapy Association for information on convening this interest group.

The 2017 Albany OT Interest Group committee members are Jenny Sammons (Convenor), Karleen Llewellyn (Secretary) and Chris Roberts (Treasurer). OTs and students from various speciality areas attend our meetings with a focus on professional development and networking. This year we will also be looking to organise some PD events locally in Albany. The Albany OTIG meet bi-monthly at 12-1pm during the week at various venues. If you are interested in being on our mailing list, would like to find out the next meeting date or have any queries please email our secretary at

The Cancer and Chronic Conditions (CCC) interest group has been providing a variety of education sessions on a range of topics, with guest speakers presenting insightful education in their areas of expertise. The CCC interest group combines two previously existing interest groups, the Cancer and Palliative Care Interest Group and Chronic Diseases Interest Group. For more information or to be added to the group, please contact

Interest Group Membership is free for WA Occupational Therapy Association members, with proof of membership card, and $20 for annual interest group membership for non members, payable on the first meeting attended of the year. For general interest group enquiries please contact

The NSIG is open to all OTs and OT students. We meet monthly from 5:30pm – 6.30pm; meeting dates are dependent on the presenter and venue. Once confirmed meeting information is placed in the WA Occupational Therapy Association (WAOTA) Newsletter.

If you are able to present /facilitate a session or want further information on a topic or issue, please contact Therese Trouchet (Convenor) Any information on courses, research, information in Neuro or jobs will be circulated to OTs on the NSIG mailing list and mentioned during our meetings. Therese stays after each session so if anyone needs to catch up with her they can. If you are unable to attend, Therese is more than happy to forward her notes from the sessions or alternatively take calls from Country OTs.

As the NSIG is affiliated with WAOTA, attendance for 2017 is free to Presenters and WAOTA members and $5 per session for non-members payable on the day you attend. Please sign the attendance register and write your name and email address clearly as it is faxed to WAOTA so they can send you a certificate of attendance, which counts towards one hour of professional education points. Presenters receive their own certificate and a bottle of wine as a thank you and acknowledgement for their work and efforts (plus our eternal gratitude!).

If your contact details have changed and /or you no longer want to receive email updates about the NSIG, please advise so our database can be updated. To join the NSIG or for further information, please contact Therese Trouchet (Convenor ) mob: 0437 475 668 ph 9367 6138 or email:
