Anatomy Refresher – Upper Limb Course

The Anatomy Refresher – Upper Limb course presented by Dr Beatriz IR de Oliveira involves the study of the various structures of the human body’s upper limbs and their role in facilitating life’s many functions. Several strategies will be implemented to teach and encourage Occupational Therapists to apply their knowledge in functional anatomy, regional anatomy, surface anatomy and clinical examination components of the upper limb.

The course will be divided into four sessions:

Session 1: Movements of the Shoulder Girdle – relating the skeletal elements of the shoulder girdle, the muscles that act on it, and the ligaments that stabilise it, to their functions with respect to their movements.

Session 2: Movements of the Elbow – relating the skeletal elements of the elbow and proximal radio-ulnar joints, the muscles that act on these joints, and the ligaments that stabilise them, to their function with respect to their movements.

Session 3: Movements of the Wrist – relating the skeletal elements of the radio-carpal and distal radio-ulnar joints, the muscles that act on these joints, and the ligaments that stabilise them, to their function with respect to their movements.

Session 4: Movements of the Hand – relating the skeletal elements of the joints of the hand, the muscles that act on these joints, and the ligaments that stabilise them, to their function with respect to their movements.
