Cross Section – WA Occupational Therapy Association Monthly Newsletter to Members
WA Occupational Therapy Association welcomes and encourages members and other relevant bodies to contribute to the content of Cross Section, the monthly association newsletter. Submission of articles that are news worthy and/or of clinical signifance are valuable and keep OT colleagues up to date with current practices and happenings in Western Australia. The newsletter is mailed out, but is also available electronically via our website under ‘Member Links’.
All articles need to be submitted to the WA Occupational Therapy Association office for editing by the 15th of each month, to ensure inclusion in the next month’s issue of the newsletter. Submissions can be in any written format, however electronic submission is preferable as this decreases the office administration and desktop publishing time, thus keeping the expenses to the Association down. The newsletter committee does make decisions about whether material submitted could be deemed as advertising a private sector, business or product and hence may suggest the submission be considered as such and incur advertising fees. WAOTA does have an Advertising Kit with further details.
There are a variety of headings used in the newsletter, the Editing committee does have flexibility with headings and can adjust them to suit the piece of writing. Some suggested headings often used include:
- Letters to the editor
- Research News
- Seminars and Conferences
- Specialty Groups
- Where are they now?
- Clinical Initiatives
Articles can be a brief comment, or as long as the topic requires. The Newsletter Committee reserves the right to edit as needed, to suit the newsletter layout and promote easy reading.
This is an opportunity to speak out, share and update. Some ideas to get you started include:
- Shining the spotlight on a service, department or individual
- Discussing clinical experience or case study
- Reviewing the pros and cons of a piece of equipment
- Summarising information gained from a conference or course attended or given
- Presenting outcomes of a quality improvement project or results of an evidence based practice review
- A funny situation
- Sharing a photo or story involving OT colleagues that recognises the profession.
- Commenting on a political situation
Also share your ideas about what you would like to see printed in the Cross Section Newsletter, it will only be as good as the contributions made.
